Common Website Design Mistakes

This article specifies some of the most Common Website Design Mistakes that hinder your website from getting better search engine rankings. If focus on rectifying the following website design mistakes, then your website will surely enjoy increased web traffic and improved search engine rankings.

Designing a Frames-based Website

Although frames may simp ly the difficult task of maintain a big website, but search engines dislike them.  Many search engine spiders can’t find their way through them and finish up indexing only the homepage. So lose your frames at once and you will be surely getting some better results the instant you redesign your website without frames.

Having an All-Flash or Graphic-Only Home Page

This is another typical mistake. Most of Website Designers design home pages like brochures. An attractive book cover which has to be opened to read. But on the web, each single click takes away some prospects. Did your visitors click Enter button or Back button? Search Engines want content to index. If you don’t have words on your home page and just a flash movie or an animated graphic, then how search engines crawlers know about your business?

Not Having a Good Title

A good title is necessary for getting better search engine rankings and the most important thing is click-through. With the title, you are always on the safe side. You need a Title with your main keywords near the starting but it should be still attractive to the humans who are reading the results.

Hosting your site with a FREE host

You should always keep your website away from a Free Host. As it deduct all your credibility. Many search engines never index websites on free hosts. Even if they index, their search engine rankings are quite low.

Stuffing Plenty of Keywords in the Keywords Tag

Does your keyword tag list all the words relevant to your products in a big long sequence? This is a definite way to invite negative points. Always put just 2-3 important keywords in your keywords tag. Here is a golden rule – never put any term in the keyword tag if it doesn’t appear at least once in the body copy.

Having No Outgoing Links

Internet is also known as Web. This is for the reason that websites link to each other. If your website only have inbound link and no outbound links, it’s not valued by search engines as it violates the general structure of the web. As some individuals endeavor to conserve the Page Rank (a proprietary index used by Google to measure Link Popularity), they keep away from having any outbound links. But in fact, it is a Big Myth. You can score some good points by having some outbound links with keyword rich anchor text and if possible, keyword-rich target as well.

Enforcing Session Variables and Cookies to Show Information

Session variables are used significantly by ecommerce-enabled sites. This is to monitor the path used by the visitor. Shopping cart and many other applications are also in the lead by using session variables. However it should be feasible to visit the several relevant information and sales pages without needing to have session variables. As search engine spiders don’t index cookies, they can't index your pages well if the navigation needs cookies and session variables.

Regularly Submitting your Website to the Search Engines

“We will submit your website to the top 150,000 search engines each month for only $30 only."  Many individuals have seen this kind of ads or received Spam with similar messages. But which are 150,000 search engines? There are only a handful of major search engines worth bothering about. For a few sites, if you submit them again and again while waiting to be indexed, your request is pushed to the end of the queue. So you can submit them again and again and never get indexed!

Optimizing for More than 2 or 3 Search Terms

It is virtually unfeasible to optimize a web page for more than 2-3 keywords without diluting the whole. Don't endeavor to practice more than 3 phrases on one page. Split. Get relevant phrases together and work on those in this page. Take 2 or 3 out of the additional phrases and make a new web page with an exclusive new copy. Keep in mind; you cannot just copy the same page and horde these new phrases in there. As it look quite odd to the visitor.
